By Trevor Hoppe on August 2, 2010 2:51 PM

The latest and greatest "The View From the Bottom" is now live! Jackson and I filmed this new piece while on gaycation on the Connecticut Coast. How very East Coast yuppie of us! In this episode, we dish on boyfriends who don't like to give head, dating another bottom, rectal microbicides, having HPV warts removed, and more! Enjoy!

The View From the Bottom: "Do You Have Straight Friends?" (Ep#12)
By Trevor Hoppe on March 3, 2010 3:22 AM

Live from Acapulco! Well, not quite live - but we did film this past weekend on our beautiful balcony during our Spring Break vacation in Mexico. Me and Maxime have quite a great episode in store for you, complete with frank discussions on being a femme bottom, having sex without fear of HIV, cruising, vacationing with straight friends, and having straight friends in general. Fasten your seatbelts, girls, it's gonna be a bumpy ride!

Enjoy! And as always, e-mail us your questions!

It's time for another installment of The View from the Bottom, the vlog about gay male health and sexuality as told from the perspective of three bottomless bottoms. This week, Trevor, Rostom, and Maxime discuss what they got for Christmas, how to deal with online harassment, what condoms are best for bottoms, and Pat Robertson' repugnant comments about Haiti.

Yes, that's a gasmask. We filmed a HILARIOUS episode today that will be coming your way ASAP. I think we'll actually split it up into two segments -- there's just too much great stuff!

"What's so hot about man/boy love?"
By Scott De Orio on November 9, 2009 8:27 PM

It's time for a fresh ep of "The View from the Bottom"! I owe Maxime, who has been moist with excitement for nearly a month now, a big apology for not posting this earlier. To make it up, Maxime, I'll amazon you a bottle of lube in the flavor of your choice.

This week, Scott and Maxime bring you a very special episode filmed in Philadelphia. Topics at hand include body hair, whether or not man/boy love is hot, golden showers, and good venues in which to meet guys.

Manhunt Spreads the Good Word: Listerine Strips = Fun Rimming Aid!
By Trevor Hoppe on November 9, 2009 1:35 PM

[ Image redacted -- see here ]

Manhunt's blog, "Manhunt Daily," was kind enough to post the latest "View From the Bottom" and one of the tips that came out of that episode: Listerine Strips are wonderful accessories to a good rimjob. There's a new marketing strategy, guys! LOL.

And just quickly, to pretend for a moment to be serious, there was an interesting comment in the comments on that entry that I wanted to highlight. Criticizing any attempt to "cover up" the "real" taste of ass, Gary says:

So come on guys pony up...you all say you want to be with and fuck men...then fuck men, not trimmed, shaved, waxed, perfumed, pepperminted versions of a man...

I get the desire to attach value to bodies that aren't conforming to certain standards of mordern hygiene. I think that's A-okay! The problem for me comes in the second half of that statement, in which he DEvalues guys who are shaven, perfurmed, etc. This is precisely the kind of tendency I notice in bear culture and other gay men's subcultures that fantasize about some kind of "naturalized" masculinity. Rather than simply saying, "Hey we have a different version of hot," they have to tack on "And your version of hot is feminine, pathetic, and fake." Basically on their way to creating new forms of hotness they reinscribe stigma against femme guys (and other men who value being clean-shaven, etc). Do what you want, guys -- but c'mon, your version of hot is not somehow better than my version of hot.

We need a pluralism of hotness!

The View From the Bottom - Ep 9 - Central Park Ed.!
By Trevor Hoppe on October 26, 2009 10:07 AM

After a long separation, Scott and I are finally back together for a new episode of "The View From the Bottom"! We filmed this gem in Central Park, whilst visiting the Big Apple last weekend. We talk about sex in nature, food in bed, "straight acting," and other annoying online profile habits. Enjoy!!!!

A Weekend to Remember!
By Trevor Hoppe on October 21, 2009 11:46 AM

Hello, ladies! I'm so sorry for the outrageous sparsity of posts for the last two weeks. I have been a traveling 'mo, headed last weekend to Toronto and then this past weekend to Philadelphia and New York City. Jeebus! There is so much to report, I barely know where to begin. Let's start with these AMAZING photos of Maxime and I that were taken by Jon -- a reader of this very blog -- at Hiro Lounge in NYC on Sunday night:

Maxime_me_NYC_1009_1.jpg

Maxime_me_NYC_1009_2.jpg

So wonderful! We had an amazing time at Hiro -- dancing the night away, stumbling home around 4 or 5 AM. If you haven't been, you really should check it out on a Sunday. Amanda Lepore throws the party, and she's fierce. Amanda was just a few feet away from me all evening! Craziness!

Scott came along for the trip to NYC. We were visiting him in Philly, as he's just moved there to begin his PhD in German at Penn. God bless him. His apartment is AMAZINGLY situated in the heart of the gayborhood, and includes a beautiful Shinto screen that may have been damaged at some point in our drunken stupor. Sorry about that:

Scott_Trevor_screen_1009.jpg

Our last day in NYC, we made the trek to Central Park -- I had never been and was determined to get there during our 24 hour stay in the Big Apple. It was a BEAUTIFUL fall day, sunny and crisp -- almost hot in the sun, and chilly in the shade. Perfect park-touring weather, as you can see:

Trevor_Scott_CentralPark_1009.jpg

Clearly, Scott and Maxime had a lovely time:

Maxime_Scott_CentralPark_1009.jpg

And we even filmed a very special "View From the Bottom" in the park!:

Scott_Trevor_TVFTB_NYC_1009.jpg

By the end of the trip, we were exhausted and at our wits end. As evidence here:

Trevor_Scott_playfight_1009.jpg

All in all, it was a pretty amazing weekend. Minus some serious drama our last night, which I'm not ready to blog about -- but stay tuned there. It's some serious shit.

The View From the Bottom - Ep 8 - Threeway Edition!
By Trevor Hoppe on October 6, 2009 9:00 AM

After an outrageous delay, we're back! Maxime, Rostom, and I teamed up for this threeway edition of the show about gay men's health told from the perspective of three bottomless bottoms. We had to film the episode TWICE because of some foul play with the audio, and you'll notice the formatting is a bit funky via Youtube. Both of these things will be rectified in future editions. I think what we came up with still turned out pretty darn good! Enjoy!

From the Set of "The View From the Bottom"
By Trevor Hoppe on October 5, 2009 7:08 PM

tvftb_set_1009.jpg

Last night, Maxime, Rostom, and I all sat down to film a new threeway edition of "The View From the Bottom"! Yea! It turned out splendidly -- even though we have to film it TWICE because the audio goofed during the first round. Alas, the fresh apple juice martinis I made were long gone by the time we filmed the second round -- but there was still raspberry coulis-topped cheesecake to go around! The episode will be up tomorrow morning!

A New View from the Bottom Coming Soon

Rostom and I filmed a downright shameful episode tonight. I'm furiously editing to get it to your hungry holes as soon as possible!

"Do You Ever Fantasize About Topping a Top?"
By Trevor Hoppe on August 24, 2009 5:06 AM

It's time for another installment of "The View From the Bottom"! For this episode, I invited my friend Maxime to join me for an episode of French vs. American bottom-goodness. We dish about topping tops, whether dating men not into anal sex would be a deal-breaker, and romantic tropes in gay culture. And yes those are watermelons. We made very tasty cocktails from them. Enjoy his accent!

"When you have bi-curious sex, are you a top, a bottom, or a vers?"
By Scott De Orio on August 6, 2009 3:34 PM

bi-curious edition.jpg

It's time for another installment of The View from the Bottom, the vlog about gay male health and sexuality as told from the perspective of two bottomless bottoms.

This week, Scott departs from the vlog's usual focus on gay men to explore female bi-curiosity with his bi-curious friend Audra. Topics under discussion include whether or not all bi-curious people are awkward/sluts, bi-curious sexual roles, being a "goldstar" lesbian, and Rita Hayworth.

"If bottoms are expert cocksuckers, shouldn't tops be expert rimmers?"
By Scott De Orio on July 30, 2009 7:35 PM

It's time for another installment of The View from the Bottom, the vlog about gay male health and sexuality as told from the perspective of two bottomless bottoms.

Trevor filmed this episode with his bff Jackson while gaycationing at the Russian River. This week, Trevor and Jackson discuss rimming, fisting, vaginas, and strategies for being "the best bottom one can be."

Questions for a Trans Bottom?
By Trevor Hoppe on July 24, 2009 9:14 PM

Tomorrow I'll be filming a new episode of "The View From the Bottom" with my BFF Jackson here in the lovely Russian River! We've been taking in the sun for a beautiful few days, and can't wait to get a new episode churned out for the masses. Jack works here in the Bay Area on LGBT issues, particularly trans community issues, so do send in any questions you have for him on being a trans-bottom!

Haven't been watching? See episodes one; two; and three!

"I'm afraid of getting performance anxiety with this really hot FTM bottom."
By Scott De Orio on July 20, 2009 6:14 PM

It's time for another installment of The View from the Bottom, the vlog about gay male health and sexuality as told from the perspective of two bottomless bottoms. Trevor filmed this very special episode with guest Tony Valenzuela while on vacation in LA. Meanwhile, Scott is rotting in Ann Arbor where no one else seems to want to talk bottoms. This week, Trevor and Tony discuss inexperienced big-dicked tops, serosorting, performance anxiety with hot FTM gay guys, and the pitfalls of threesomes.

Everybody Goes to Hollywood
By Trevor Hoppe on July 18, 2009 6:11 AM

hollywood_0709.jpg

I have been a terribly negligent blogger. My sincerest apologies! I'm here in Los Angeles visiting my BFF Justin. Before that, I was in North Carolina visiting family for 10 days. It's been a whirlwind two weeks! I'm here in LA until Tuesday, when I head up to San Francisco to turn around and head to the Russian River for a few days with friends. Then SF until August 12th, including my presentation at the American Sociological Association's annual meeting there. I was THRILLED when I found out a few days ago that my paper on bottoms was awarded the Sociologist AIDS Network's Martin Levine Student Essay Award! They'll be presenting the award at SAN's meeting during ASA.

Phew!

Anyholler. I'm going to do my best to keep the blogging up while I'm here. But my Internet access is choppy. I'll be trying to install a Movable Type app that will let me blog from my iPhone. That will help keep things moving!

Tomorrow I'm meeting up with Tony Valenzuela to film a new installment of "The View From the Bottom." Any last minute questions? Submit them online -- the form can be found on the right-hand sidebar on this here weblog.

Submit Your Anonymous Question to "The View From the Bottom" Vlog!
By Trevor Hoppe on July 7, 2009 5:30 PM

So we've been hard at work getting new episodes of The View From the Bottom to you! I have to say, it's a been a lot of fun recording with Scott -- and he's generously been doing most of the legwork to get the episodes to the web. But to keep going, we need your questions! I've whipped up this anonymous form for visitors to easily send in their questions for us to tackle. It's below! Send us in your questions today! Haven't been watching? See episodes one and two!

What's in store for future episodes? I'll be recording an episode with special guest Tony Valenzuela next week in Los Angeles. Tony's a sexy, sweet, and fabulously smart Gay Men's Health activist and writer whose controversial remarks about barebacking and testing HIV-positive put him squarely in the big gay spotlight in the late 1990s. Got questions about being a Poz bottom? This is a good week to ask!

Without further ado, here's the new form -- which will always be available on the right sidebar of my blog. If you're viewing this on Facebook, God knows what the form below looks like -- but visit www.trevorhoppe.com to see it properly.
