She's a fabulous North Carolinian blogging about politics, LGBT and women's rights, the influence of the far Right, and race relations. What more can I say? |
Are you kidding me? But honestly Trevor, I can't decide whether to laugh or be pissed. I mean seriously what is the world thinking?
Speaking of which, here's something equally bizarre to say the least. India is currently debating whether to scrap the archaic British colonial law on homosexuality. While the High Court is still deliberating, here's what the Center has to say "Homosexuality is a social vice and the state has the power to contain it. [Decriminalazing homosexuality] may create [a] breach of peace. If it is allowed then [the] evil of AIDS and HIV would further spread and harm the people. It would lead to a big health hazard and degrade moral values of society."
1951? I think its worse. Its 1860.
Hmm... I wonder how often the law against homosexuality is "enforced" in India? Obviously the rationale is outrageous (particularly since the vast majority of HIV/AIDS cases in India are among heterosexuals, I believe). I certainly hope the High Court rules favorably for the gays. I have a gay pen pal in New Delhi. He seems to be doing quite alright. So I presume its the smaller towns where problems emerge.
Thats true. The law may never have been enforced in India but what's pathetic is a. the country is a democracy, b. the Home Ministry foolishly still wants to believe that AIDS is a gay disease, although the Health Ministry has clearly favored the "reading down" of the law and c. Morality (or whatever that meant) is being weighed against basic constitutional rights. HA!
But on the brighter side, there has at least never been (religious based) institutionalized homophobia in that country. But thats taking the story to a different level isn't it?
Anyways, coming back to "Treatment for Homosexuals", let's just say its a mad mad world...On second thoughts, I still can't believe it. Sigh!
Indeed, tis very frustrating!
I want to see THAT insurance claim.
