My friend sent me an e-mail today saying that he had been traumatized upon being attacked today by a praying mantis. He killed the insect. I immediately thought, "hey isn't that illegal?" Where did the bizarre myth come from? God only knows. Most Americans apparently think it is -- but rest assured, killing praying mantis is not illegal. It never was, and never will be.
Just goes to show you: rumor and word-of-mouth can be EXTREMELY powerful!
Trevor, nice myth, but I have always found the fact that Achilles only bothered slaughtering the enemy at Troy because his young male (14-16) lover Petriculous was slain by accident for wearing Achilles' armor due mistaken identity. Mythology set a basis for a lot of the best and worst of modern homosexuals, you could use it perhaps more seriously and make a much greater impact.
Just my take. Lee introduced me to this site. I like most all I see. Keep up the work!

She's a fabulous North Carolinian blogging about politics, LGBT and women's rights, the influence of the far Right, and race relations. What more can I say?
