As I'm compiling the syllabus for my "Sociology of Sexuality" class, I thought it'd be useful for some to share the list of resources I've been compiling. A fair amount of LGBT / Queer scholarship here, of course. But some broader material as well. I've divided the citations from books into those from full-length monographs and those from anthologies, to help distinguish the kind of material. These citations are all from books, but some articles from anthologies you can find elsewhere in journal publication or also in other anthologies. I'll continue adding to this list over the next few weeks. Enjoy!

An impressive list for sure. And all I have to say about Vagina-dente is "eww."
If you are looking at movies, maybe you might want to try "Paris is burning". And while I know it is not that great of a movie, but "Another Gay Movie" was great in the sense that it attempted to project what an idealistic gay world might look like and how gay youth come to terms with their sexuality, in a comedic fashion but nevertheless important journey.
And you might like it because it touches on "bottom bias", and now being a bottom is in many ways looked down upon.
Halperin's "What do gay men want." Also: The Rise and fall of gay culture.
(LOL -- my CAPTCHA words are "bookstores" and "baths" -- SRSLY)
@Cinci: Eh, I've got enough gay boy stuff to put "What do gay men want?" on there. I also think it's a bit too specific for this survey course. But it's definitely a book close to my heart. "The Rise and Fall of Gay Culture" is also obviously gay-boy-centered. I need some lesbians up in this syllabus.
@J: Yea, somehow "Paris is Burning" wasn't on that list. But I'll add it. It's a great film. "Another Gay Movie" is a lot for undergrads to handle, I think. I think most would think it's just a regurgitation of gay stereotypes, which is obviously a superficial read of the movie. But perhaps I don't give them enough credit... In any case, I need something more topic-centered than it offers.
I always like to see some Eric Rofes (Dry Bones or Reviving the Tribe). Rofes also co-edited a book with Sara Miles-- lesbians talking about gay male sex and vice versa:

indeed a comprehensive list. I also liked the novel The World Unseen by shamim sharif on a lesbian relationship in the social background of south africa where apartheid still existed.
